How can an artist produce works that convey complex layers of meaning and emotion and yet preserve the excitement of the first impression, the energy of the initial gesture or sketch? This exhibit demonstrates masterful examples of artistic responses to this question.
Award winning artist Lesa Chittenden Lim uses her creative spirit to compose images that reflect the stillness, depth and harmony found in nature. She believes that our natural surroundings are an allegory of life. She paints what she observes as “portraits” of individual trees and flowers surrounded in nature by families, lovers, friends. Lesa often works onsite and seeks out locations that provide distinct imagery and strong emotions.
Former head of Design and Print at the Chrylser Corporation, Meighen Jackson often quips, “my degrees are in Fine Art, that is why I always thought I’d make an excellent waitress”. In actual fact Meighen has had a number of jobs in the creative sector on her way to becoming a full time artist and arts educator. Images are drawn directly from nature using Asian brush on large sheets of paper. Her elegant and exquisite compositions layer and juxtapose these drawings with candy wrappers, josh papers, plastic sheeting, photographs and Wall Street Journal stock pages.
