Brandon Calhoon
Monday, June 7th, 2010“The soul of rock n roll. If I can’t feel it, I can’t hear it!”, Brandon Calhoon
Like a modern-day musical superhero, Brandon Calhoon rocks out of Detroit with fists pumping and his guitar wailing. His popularity as a live entertainer has soared since his initial exposure to American television audiences on the Rockstar: INXS show. With the 2009 EP release, “Detroit City”, Brandon explored the culmination of themes from his travels on the road back to Detroit from the West Coast. Since then, he has been hard at work on a new collection of songs. Slated for release in the fall of 2010, his self-titled album, “Calhoon”, contains cleverly crafted Southern rock and blues influenced melodies that any listener can sing along to. Calhoon takes you from Michigan to the Muddy Water Delta and beyond with his new songs.
During the 2010 Memorial Weekend concert series kick off at DTE Energy Music Theatre, Brandon graced the stage with the one and only Eddie Money. During the encore, they performed a rousing rendition of “Detroit City”. Lyrically, Calhoon offers every twisted devilish temptation that a listener would expect from a tune titled after a city known for creating some of the most influential music in history. For the debut release, Brandon partnered with the Blunk Brothers – Chris Plum & Jeff Hupp (Brendan Benson, The Atomic Numbers). Later in 2009, Calhoon signed a deal with North Star Media who also licensed “Detroit City” for use on FX’s TV show ‘Justified’ staring Timothy Olyphant.
For the upcoming 2010 release, Calhoon is recording at the renowned Rustbelt Studios (Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker). Brandon Calhoon says that he has finally found his sound. When speaking about the new record, Calhoon says, “This is what I am about. I had to dive into a lot of styles in order to figure out what I’m supposed to be. I had to find out what my voice is best at.” You could say Brandon Calhoon is the modern day son of the Bob Seger and the Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Brandon Calhoon is now booking for the 2010-2011 touring season. For more information visit http://www.brandoncalhoon.com

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010Graceann Warn Debut’s New Body of Work
Friday, May 7th, 2010“Spring Happening”, Kaiser Suidan’s annual group artist event at Next Step Studios will preview a new body of work by Graceann Warn. Recently her paintings have taken on a new exuberance in color and gesture following a long period of studio work including the completion of a large commissioned painting for Yale-New Haven Hospitals. The “Spring Happening” event will also include the official opening of Next Step’s new sculpture garden featuring ceramic artists Mark Chatterly and Susan Beiner’s work. There will be live music and drinks to compliment this fantastic art event.
A little background on Graceann Warn: she grew up in a small town in New Jersey, where the thought of making a living as an artist had never crossed her mind. She had intended on making a career as a Landscape Architect receiving her degree in that field from U of M in Ann Arbor. After a chance encounter and a rather intense emotional response to viewing a Mark Rothko art exhibit she realized her true calling and decided to become an artist. She merged beautifully with the Ann Arbor artist’s culture and has been one of the lucky ones to make a living solely off of her art. Currently her artistic focus has been on using bright colors in her work such as vibrant reds and explosive oranges.
This year Graceann has been extremely busy with gallery shows scheduled all over the country including Lenox, Massachusetts, Wellfleet Massachusetts, Lincoln, Nebraska, and the critically acclaimed SOFA Chicago art gala at Navy Pier. She will be ending the year with a big solo exhibit starting on November 13th at the River Gallery in Chelsea, MI. The solo exhibit will remain up until January of 2011.
Don’t miss out on “Spring Happenings,” at Next Step Studios in Ferndale located at 530 Hilton between 8 and 9 mile. The event is Free and begins at 6pm and goes till midnight. For more information on Next Step Studios call 248.414.7050 or visit http://www.nextstepstudio.com.
